About

The Army Cadet Program

The Army Cadet program is aimed to develop positive qualities of leadership, citizenship, and physical fitness in young Canadians ages 12-18.

2381’s program is completely free. We strongly believe that our program should be accessible to youth of all backgrounds and that opportunities for success should be available to everyone. There are no dues, registration fees, or administration charges that are imposed on cadets or their families. All costs of training and uniforms are borne by the program.

The focus of our training has continued to keep pace with the priorities of youth in our community. 2381’s program is focused on developing life skills to not only help youth transition into adulthood, but also gain an edge in finding employment and/orienteering post-secondary education.

Cadets are not members of the Canadian military and there are no obligations or expectations of joining the military during or after their membership.

Our program is funded and administered through a partnership between the Department of National Defense and the Army Cadet League of Canada, a civilian non-profit organization. The program is also significantly supported by grants from provincial and municipal governments, as well as charitable donations from organizations and individuals.

History of 2381 RCACC

2381 RCACC was established on October 1, 1962. The unit paraded near what is now the Jericho lands for the Canadian Forces. When the unit was formed it was affiliated with the 8th Royal Canadian Electrical Mechanical Engineers. 9 years later,in 1976 the Cadet Corps changed affiliation and became part of the Vancouver Militia Service Battalion Family before reaffiliating with Vancouver Thunderbird Security Unit (Military Police).

Three years later, 2381 became affiliated with the Irish Fusiliers of Canada (The Vancouver Regiment). Effective on the 1st of January 1981 the sponsorship of the Corps was shared with the Royal Canadian Legion, Vancouver T.B. (Pacific No. 44) Branch.

On 25 June 2002, the Irish Fusiliers of Canada was officially amalgamated with the British Columbia Regiment (Duke of Connaught’s Own). 2381 RCACC thus changed their affiliation to the British Columbia Regiment, but it was decided that the Corps would perpetuate the history and identity of the Irish Fusiliers of Canada.
